SPA Construction Safety Passport Course for CSCS
Who should attend?
The starting course is aimed at contractors within the construction industry who wish to obtain their CSCS Labourers Green Card. On completion, the course will provide Level 1 QCF equivalent for Health & Safety in a Construction Environment.
After completing the course, all delegates will be able to retain and demonstrate knowledge of the common hazards associated with the workplace. They will also appreciate how they can personally influence good standards of health, safety and the environment, as well as understand the value of risk assessments, and shall be able to recognise when a generic assessment is required.
The course is divided into six separate modules over the training day. Delegates will be required to complete the training for each module:
Module 1 – Organising for safety
Covers the legal responsibilities of employers and employees, the role of enforcing authorities, what makes a vulnerable worker, hazard identification and control.
Module 2 – The workplace
Examines what makes a safe place to work, safe behaviour, hidden services and specific hazards, alongside working at height, the rules linked to asbestos, confined spaces and a permit-to-work system.
Module 3 – Tools, plant and machinery
Delegates will learn the risks presented by both powered and non-powered work equipment, as well as such risks associated with the various forms of energy created, including those risks when using workplace transport.
Module 4 – Health
Candidates will be alerted to the varied precautions which should be taken when in the workplace, including the ill health risks associated with musculoskeletal problems and the effects of noise and stress. It will also highlight the risks and the control for substances of a hazardous nature which could have an adverse effect on health.
Module 5 – Procedures
Shows the correct emergency and first aid procedures that should be followed at all times when in the workplace.
Module 6 – The environment
Covers all current and future environmental processes, including the safe storage and marking of materials, waste control hierarchies that are enforced, and emergency planning in the event of a workplace issue or risk.
This particular course culminates in a multiple choice questionnaire; with a certificate awarded by the training provider. Please note, however, that on completion of the SPA course, the delegate must contact the CSCS national helpline to book their online CSCS test by calling 0344 99 44 777. The SPA certificate will be required as evidence that the delegate has successfully completed the training course.
It is the paper certificate that is required to apply for the online test, rather than the SPA passport, which is issued to each delegate at a later date.
