Humber Recruitment are pleased to be recruiting on behalf of a valued client for the position of Occupational Safety Specialist.

What you need to know about the role

Working alongside a team of 6 you will provide the Management Team with expert guidance in the development and implementation of H&S Strategy, driving continual improvements in H&S performance within the area of responsibility.

As an Occupational Safety Specialist you will act as a business expert on particular standards and instructions to ensure that across the department all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety are understood and applied, assisting with the development and deployment of business standards and training.

You will be an expert in providing support to BHSI standard owner, assigning ownership to high risk standards and specialisms, you will act as a business custodian of incident reporting and investigation including RIDDOR reporting, being a first point of contact for any further information requests. You will take the ownership of the development of Safety Improvement Plan from strategic, tactical and operational perspectives, you will champion in development of Zero Harm campaigns.

Along with the above, you will act as a Lead Auditor for the British Steel H&S audit process and oversee the development of safety related training packages, as well as generic H&S training competencies for job roles across the business to support competency requirements.

What we need to know about you

We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational and communication skills, who can develop relationships with safety & operational professionals across British Steel to ensure a sharing and learning network is created and maintained, who is confident in liaising with a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of business such as employee representatives (TU Safety Reps), Business H&S Professionals, external enforcement agencies, Senior Management Teams ensuring business compliance with health and safety legislative requirements, industry best practice, and best available techniques.

You will have significant H&S management experience, hold NEBOSH General Certificate and Lead Auditor certification, have experience in manufacturing and/or construction environment and be a strategic thinker who is able to identify improvement opportunities through analysis of data.
