Humber Recruitment are resourcing an Operations Supervisor for our client based in Immingham.

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for covering all operational aspects of the international and domestic freight requirements of the Immingham branch relating to road transport. This will include all road freight done by the Client for domestic and land transportation for both import and export shipments.

Compliance

Understands and complies conscientiously with company standards, guidelines and policies, including but not limited to QA, Health & Safety, Aviation Security, Compliance, HMRC Regulations etc.

You are required to operate within:

  • Client’s QHSE, human resources and standard operating procedures
  • Legal requirements including but not limited to dangerous goods, customs, quarantine and transport security
  • Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance guidelines
  • Customers policies and procedures

  • Report all hazards, near misses and events immediately
  • Comply with the requirements of the Client’s QHSE Management System and assist the organisation on occasion in times of emergency.

Position Responsibilities

The Operations Supervisor is responsible and accountable for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the road freight, liaising with the teams in our other depots and ensuring good and efficient planning.
  • Liaising with the finance department to ensure effective facilitation with accounts.
  • Managing the performance of the road freight and assisting with the supervision of new employees by coaching and mentoring as the business grows.
  • Providing support and problem-solving options for problematic shipments and managing client expectations when issues arise.
  • Ensuring information is communicated effectively to both external and internal customers/departments
  • Negotiating with domestic transport, and Logistics services companies and managing the procurement of those services with ongoing review of performance and market cost analysis.
  • Providing input and direct support to top-tier and key account clients.
  • Implementing policies and plans to manage the international and local transport functions in line with QHSE and regulatory expectations.
  • Preparing client-specific reports.
  • Preparing and presenting shipment reports to key stakeholders.
  • Liaising with clients and transport companies to coordinate collection and deliveries.
  • Ensuring warehouse-specific requirements are maintained under CAA Aviation requirements
  • Liaise with our sales teams to drive the road product forward as well as take a keen part in promoting the service(s).

Selection Criteria – Essential 

  • 3 – 5 years experience in managing road freight operations supporting a wide range of customers operating in the Oil & Gas sector, construction etc.
  • Management/supervisory experience (minimum 3 years) with the ability to motivate and drive team members
  • Good knowledge of road freight planning and use of planning tools (Timpex is used for road freight)
  • General knowledge of freight forwarding, break bulk, heavy lift, over-dimensional and special project cargoes
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
  • Confident in conflict resolution
  • Advanced negotiation and relationship skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
  • High attention to detail and strong planning and organising skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a busy work environment
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment

Selection Criteria – Desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of Road and Multi-Modal Freight Procedures
  • Sound knowledge of Incoterms
  • Previous experience managing and organising collections and distribution to/from our warehouse

Qualifications/Licences Required

  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence
