What you need to know about the role

In this role you will be the ‘go-to’ business expert providing technical environmental support on all matters relating to air emissions. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental professional to take their career to the next level supporting British Steel within a complex and heavily regulated site.

You will be key to supporting the delivery of compliance against a wide range of environment legislation, especially on air emissions.

Working closely with the Plant areas and functions at Scunthorpe you will develop and maintain sustainable solutions for, and to pursue, continuous environmental improvement initiatives using appropriate tools and techniques.

Being the custodian of the air emissions management systems to ensure implementation of the company environmental policy, legal compliance and continuous environmental improvement at the Scunthorpe site. You will also deliver Environmental Training and education tailored to help our operations team deliver compliance against a wide range of legal requirements.

Specifically you will:

· Oversee the daily management of PM10 including the daily forecast, exceedance warning and exceedance reporting systems

· Review and present data relating to air emissions for the site

· Assisting in the planning and coordinating the stack emissions contract for the business in line with legal requirements (all UK sites)

· Responsible for submission of improvement condition responses and annual report requirements to the Environment Agency

· Supporting the business in relation to communications to the Environment Agency

· Acting as a Plant representative to assist plant with environment issues and maintenance of the Environmental Management System

What we need to know about you

We are looking for someone with working knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation particularly in the areas of air emissions management.

The ability to work to highly demanding deadlines is a prerequisite along with excellent communication skills.

A previous knowledge of Air Quality Management Area’s and ambient air quality limits and have experience of Environmental Permitting.

Experience of working with or on regulated sites along with a working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems is desirable but not essential for the role.

Applicants with MCERTS Level 1 or 2 with relevant technical endorsements is desirable but not essential in addition to an awareness of the European IPPC Bureau BREF process and BAT Conclusions and relevant international standards relating to air emissions for example ISO14181
