A 1 Day per week course lasting for 5 weeks: Starting Friday 7th January then; Friday 14th January, Friday 21th January, Friday 28th January and the final week on Friday 4th February.

Who should attend?

Designed for those at managerial status, the SMSTS aims to develop a thorough knowledge of best practice health and safety in the construction industry. An advisable route for employees in sector roles such as construction directors and site managers, site agents, project directors, and quantity surveyors. It covers incredibly important areas of health and safety law, the responsibilities of those at managerial status and how to develop safe systems of work and risk assessment.

Delegates who attend and fully complete this course will be qualified for up to five years and will be able to safely manage those in the industry while keeping everything in top form for clients’ needs.

Course structure

Includes a thorough understanding of the following processes and procedures:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
  • Risk assessments/method statements
  • Recent changes in accepted working practices
  • Behavioural safety
  • Management of occupational health
  • Principles of manual handling, PPE and first aid
  • Electricity
  • Excavations
  • Working at height
  • Scaffolding
  • Demolition
  • Confined Spaces

Assessment structure

Delegates will be continually assessed throughout the five-day course and will be expected to interact with others through class discussions, through group or individual presentations and group work, with full attendance mandatory. You will also be required to undertake self-study over the course period through external means. The course culminates in a multiple-choice exam.

Duration

5 Days – can be delivered over a week or by day release.

Renewal

Every 5 years with a refresher course.
