Humber Recruitment are sourcing a Technical Clerk (Engineering & Work Pack Preparation) for a client of ours based in Grimsby.
Role Purpose
The Technical Clerk provides vital support to engineering and construction teams by preparing and managing work packs for site execution. This role requires a solid understanding of pipefitting, fabrication, and engineering processes to ensure that all technical documentation, drawings, and procedures are accurate, coordinated, and compliant with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile and issue engineering work packs for piping, fabrication, and construction activities
- Interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and specifications to ensure correct information is included
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and ensure correct materials are allocated to each work pack
- Liaise with engineers, planners, supervisors, and pipefitters to capture all required technical details
- Ensure correct revision control of drawings and documents within work packs
- Track progress of work packs and update registers, trackers, and databases
- Assist with permits, risk assessments, and method statements relevant to work packs
- Support QA/QC processes by ensuring inspection and test plans (ITPs) are included
- Provide technical and clerical support during site audits, reviews, and handovers
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of pipefitting and fabrication practices
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, GA drawings, isometrics)
- Knowledge of materials, welding processes, and construction methods
- Competent in MS Office and document management systems
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines
Qualifications & Experience
- Background in pipefitting, fabrication, or mechanical engineering (essential)
- Previous experience preparing or managing work packs in an engineering/construction environment
- Knowledge of engineering standards, health & safety, and quality control procedures
- Experience in oil & gas, power generation, petrochemical, or heavy engineering projects (desirable)
