Humber Recruitment are bringing you a new job vacancy in Boston, as we are resourcing a Maintenance Engineer for one of our clients on a full-time basis.
Job Summary
Our client is looking to appoint a Maintenance Engineer as part of their hatchery team. You will support the smooth running of our automated systems and help ensure everything operates safely and efficiently to meet production and welfare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the day-to-day running of automated hatchery equipment, including incubators and hatchers
- Carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs
- Monitoring and maintaining critical systems such as temperature, humidity, airflow, and CO₂ levels to ensure optimal incubator performance
- Checking and maintaining fans, turning systems, sensors, and alarms
- Following structured daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules
- Identifying issues early to prevent breakdowns and performance loss
- Monitoring equipment performance and supporting continuous improvement
- Ensuring spare parts and critical components are available when needed
- Supporting the operation of key utility systems, including:
- Air handling units (AHUs)
- Refrigeration and cooling systems
- Water systems and humidity control
- Backup power systems (generators/UPS)
- Helping ensure uninterrupted operation to protect hatchery conditions
- Ensuring all systems support the highest levels of animal welfare and chick quality
- Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of equipment to prevent contamination
- Supporting strict biosecurity procedures during maintenance activities
- Working both independently and as part of a skilled, supportive team
- Contributing to a safe and efficient working environment
- Participating in shift patterns and on-call cover as required
Skills and Experience
- A hands-on, problem-solving approach
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, or engineering-based work
- Strong attention to detail and awareness of how systems impact performance
- Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- A positive attitude and willingness to develop new skills
- Flexible and hard-working
- Ability to work shifts
- Computer Literate
- Previous experience working within a production environment would be advantageous
