The Health and Safety Officer will ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws. The successful candidate will also be responsible for driving health and safety performance across the business.

As a Health and Safety Officer, you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You must also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.

Purpose/Key Objective:

To actively support and encourage high standards of health and safety protection in all site activities and ensure compliance with Company and statutory requirements.

Principal Accountabilities/Critical Objectives:

As the Health and Safety Officer, your responsibilities will include to:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards
  • Provide guidance and support to safety representatives, employees and management on health and safety matters
  • Liaise closely with the site management team, to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out in line with employment law following any health concerns raised
  • Establish and maintain strong reporting mechanisms to monitor and analyse safety performance data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver training programs and initiatives to promote a safety-conscious culture
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures to effectively manage potential crises or disasters
  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive the implementation of effective safety and environmental initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to health & safety activities.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as a health and safety officer in a manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and standards
  • Professional certifications in health and safety management
  • Development and delivery of in-house health and safety training
  • NEBOSH certificate (diploma preferred) in Occupational Safety and Health
  • Proven knowledge and experience in BSI ISO45001 management and internal/external auditing
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools
  • Competence in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
