Humber Recruitment are currently resourcing a Marine Electrical Engineer for one of our clients based in Hull on a full-time basis.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Marine Electrical Engineer to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrade of electrical systems on commercial vessels and infrastructure. The role involves working both onboard vessels and within shipyards, supporting new builds, refits, dry dockings, and operational maintenance.
The successful candidate will ensure all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with marine regulations and class requirements while supporting vessel owners, operators, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Systems
- Install, maintain, and repair marine electrical systems, including AC and DC power distribution systems.
- Service and maintain battery systems, charging systems, inverters, and shore power connections.
- Install and maintain lighting systems, control panels, and electrical distribution boards.
- Ensure all work uses marine-grade components suitable for harsh environments.
Fault Finding and Diagnostics
- Perform systematic electrical fault finding and troubleshooting on vessel systems.
- Diagnose and repair faults in power generation, distribution, navigation, communication, and auxiliary systems.
- Use specialist testing and diagnostic equipment to identify electrical faults efficiently.
- Implement effective and long-term solutions to minimise vessel downtime.
Vessel Refits and Dry Docking Support
- Support electrical works during vessel refits, maintenance periods, and dry dockings.
- Assist in planning electrical work scopes and reviewing technical specifications.
- Liaise with shipyards, contractors, and vessel management teams to coordinate electrical work.
- Supervise electrical installations, testing, and commissioning activities.
Installation and Upgrades
- Carry out electrical installations for new equipment and system upgrades.
- Support integration of new technologies, including:
- Energy-efficient lighting systems (LED)
- Power management systems
- Battery system upgrades
- Electrical system modernisation
- Ensure installations are completed safely and in accordance with technical specifications.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure all electrical work complies with marine safety regulations, class requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, inspection records, and reports.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, and performance verification of electrical systems.
Infrastructure Support
- Assist with electrical maintenance and installation for marina and dockside infrastructure, including shore power systems and distribution boards.
- Conduct electrical inspections to ensure a safe and reliable power supply for vessels.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience working as a Marine Electrical Engineer or Marine Electrician.
- Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems (AC/DC).
- Experience working on commercial vessels, offshore vessels, or shipyard environments.
- Ability to perform electrical diagnostics and fault finding.
- Familiarity with marine regulations and class requirements.
- Experience with electrical testing and commissioning.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or technical qualification in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Electrical Systems.
- Marine electrical certification or relevant trade qualification.
- Offshore or marine safety training (preferred but not essential).

- Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Good communication and coordination skills when working with shipyards, contractors, and vessel crews.
- Willingness to travel and support projects both in the UK and internationally.
