Humber Recruitment are resourcing a Product Development Specialist for our esteemed client based in Grimsby.

Role Description:

The Product Development Specialist focuses on the development of new commercial products and application areas that expand the existing portfolio to enhance the profitability of the client in line with business objectives.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Working through the whole product development cycle from conception to commercialisation
  • Directly liaising with existing and potential new customers
  • Prototype development, testing and benchmarking
  • Supporting the Production and Commercial teams to deliver sales of the final product
  • Carrying out laboratory testing on converted goods and fibre
  • Conducting benchmarking studies and experiments on both Client and competitor products
  • Provide technical support for Marketing and Commercial
  • Identify new market opportunities for Client products through internal meetings with the wider Client team and representation on customer calls and external events
  • Continuously update knowledge of development goods to identify potential product and application opportunities, developing and enhancing our class-leading range of materials
  • Coordinate external testing and liaison with outside sources including customers and academia
  • Provide Technical support for manufacturing lines, including trials, customer request support and QC testing of trial samples
  • Develop and establish new test methods and protocols to ensure product quality and/or enhance process stability and efficiency
  • Translate performance of fibre and converted products to support new and ongoing developments
  • Create product technical specifications and datasheets
  • Provide technical support for Customer Service Requests
  • Provide technical support into key market development programs
  • Identify improvement opportunities and makes project proposals
  • Produce regular reports of all activities carried out including analytical test reports.

Other Accountabilities:

 Attendance at international trade fairs and exhibitions to assist in the promotion of Client products and technology

  • Supporting development trials off-site at customer or converter sites.

Essential Skills: 

  • Good attention to detail
  • Practical hands-on approach
  • Ability to adapt and understand new concepts quickly. 

Desirable Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience of working within a laboratory environment
  • Working with textiles, in particular non-wovens
  • Degree in Science
  • Experience of NPD
  • Awareness of relevant Health & Safety Regulations.
